a person with brain cancer whom had chemo and radiation therapy develops fluid on the brain can it be treated?

the doctors are saying nothing can be done for the fluid on her brain and she is becoming more forgetful and she seems to zone out and do things that don’t make sense.

I guess it would depend on how serious the swelling is. If the doctor can’t control it with drugs, then it’s possible to drill a hole in the skull to relieve the pressure. How serious is the cancer? That would determine how the doctor would approach the situation. Good luck.

I agree with April. My surgery radiation chemo all caused swelling and steroids were given to bring the swelling down. Avastin also helped swelling . I’ve nev heard of fluid on the brain

The doctors are right, because if the fluid were drained, it would come back, and the effort would be terribly expensive and painful to her. Sometimes it’s best to leave things to God, because she’s going to leave this life no matter what.

If it is swelling (cerebral oedema) steroids (dexamethasone can be used. If it is something else and her life expectancy is long enough a shunt could be considered.

I think that would be radiation causing swelling in the brain. They give a person steroids for that.

Any brain cancer/rads treatment can cause swelling and person will be given steroids for it.

Yeah, it’s not fluid and they won’t drill a hole in the skull for swelling.
