are liberals attacking "chemo-refusing-cancer-boy",because his family is Christian?

on msnbc today the family was attacked as "religious zealots"…rachal maddow..who are endangering the life of their son, however, i recall the liberal media practiaclly giving sainthood to the parent who refused food to Terry Shiavo, until she died….they said it was an issue of patient rights….i guess christians have no rights under liberal rule….

Brain dead compared to treatable lymphoma.

    You fail.

  2. Steve on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

    Terry Shiavo was brain dead.

The difference between the two cases seems quite clear to me.

I’m not attacking him – one less Jesus nut in the world would be a good thing. Comparing this, though, with Terry Shaivo is quite intellectually dishonest though. Shaivo was no more all ready – just a living shell without a person inside. Cancer boy has a good chance to survive with proper care & treatment – his parents are, essentially, issuing him a death sentence.

    His family is stupid.

I can’t speak for all liberals, but personally I don’t think that they should force him to do anything. Also what does politics have to do with the Judicial branch?

Welcome to the puss y American pop culture.

    Americans cry too much.

They should let the kid die a slow painful death if that what he and his family want. You republican crybabies were freaking when John Travolta denied his kids medical treatment.

  8. eldude on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

Meh nailed it on the head. Because this kid disagrees with liberals, he is wrong, no matter what.

  9. BigDog on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

There is a huge difference between a kid with cancer and a woman who had been brain dead for over a decade.

  10. ash on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

I am thinking that this issue is not Christian based, according to the article I read "The Missouri-based religious group believes in natural healing methods advocated by some American Indians."

So no, I guess they are not attacking for that reason.

  11. bash on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

Are you kidding? The child is learning disabled. He can’t read or comprehend basic facts about his medical condition. We aren’t ‘attacking’ him at all. Actual doctors, the legal system, and every rational parent in this world would say that the child needs to see a doctor. He has an 85% chance of recovery…..if his mother hadn’t run away with him to avoid simply seeing a doctor. No one is criticizing him. His parents should be locked up for lying to him, for refusing to treat him for a life threatening illness, and for taking him against court order.

  12. Sindidit on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

I’m OK with parents withholding medical care for their children, but they should be prepared to suffer punishment if and when their child dies.

Isn’t that the way God would want it?

  13. Lying Republican Moron on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

Liberals do not attack anyone, Neocon. Only Neocons do.

  14. Pied Hussein Piper on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

    Yes.

Rights of any kind are only granted for those who Liberals agree with.

  15. Cut Throat B**** on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

The medicine man kid is 13 and learning disabled.

He has a 95% chance of survival if he does the chemo and certain death if he doesn’t.

He had one round of radioation/chemo and the cancer did respond, but it is now back because they stopped it.

He is Catholic AND Nemenhah so he uses religious beliefs instead of modern medicine.

Do you actually read these stories before you start attacking Liberals or are you just randomly pulling headlines to criticize?

Terry Schivo was brain dead. Daniel Hauser is quite alive.

  16. Peace through blinding force on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

No, they’re attacking them for claiming he is not government property.

  17. Taylor C on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

    Faulty logic there spartacus, learn2philosophozizce

  18. Kiss me I have Swine Flu on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

YES! No one should be able to use religion to justify killing or letting another person die from a treatable med. condition.

Another couple with the same religion refused insulin for their 11 y/o with diabetes. She DIED! Are you going to tell me thats not murder?

  19. got_air on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

The medical evidence in the Terry Shiavo case was that she was brain dead. The autopsy after her death showed the medical evidence to be correct. The medical evidence in the boy’s case is there is a very high success rate in treatment of the type of cancer he is suffering from if he takes the treatments. Without the treatments the boy will most certainly die. This has nothing to do with liberal vs conservative. This has to do with common sense vs parents who are completely ignorant and misguided and who could very well end up costing this child his life as a result of their actions.

  20. justm399 on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

? the two are totally different. Shiavo was brain dead with zero hope of any recovery. This boy has a cancer that, if treated, has better than 90% CURE rate, but if untreated about a 95% chance of death within a few years.

It’s not like they are pushing some experimental chemo with a low chance of helping that will only cause suffering.

  21. John Q on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

This is NOT a Christian family. Don’t paint with a broad brush. I’m a conservative and a Christian and this child is obviously in danger and the judge is right to protect him. Bye the way he is home schooled (which I’m usually in favor of) but the kid can’t even read, something is wrong here. He didn’t seem handicapped enough not to be able to read.

  22. iga k on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

I am a liberal. I didn’t see the show. If she was running them down, I am disappointed. Right or wrong, it should be the boy’s decision. Comparing this boy’s case with Terry Shiavo is not right. These were completely different. If you will remember, it was the husband fighting the parents, because the woman had been brain dead for years, and was just sitting there. He was trying to follow her wishes. It should be up to the patient.

  23. Methane Madness on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

I hate to say it but, there is a big disconnect. The kind of cancer her son has is 90% curable with chemo. He is 13 years old, is home schooled and cannot read! They are Catholic, but, not of the same Catholicisms that most are. Even the so called cult they belong to does not endorse what they are doing to their son.
Chemo is tough, but, he can do it; my 4 four year old nephew went through it for almost three years. He was diagnosed with ALL–Acute Lymphoma Leukemia, and will be 16 this summer.

EDIT: TO THOSE WHO STATE TERRY SHIAVO WAS BRAIN DEAD…SHE MOST CERTAINLY WAS NOT. SHE WAS ABUSED BY HER ROTTEN HUSBAND; WHO WANTED HER DEAD.

  24. RU486 on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

You do realize the differences in these cases right? Refusing that boy medical treatment is abuse and neglect. Freedom of religion does not mean you have a right to child abuse.

  25. Holy Cow! on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

There are no gods. They essentially murdered their child. But hey, at least, the mother didn’t have an abortion which wrong, wrong, wrong!!!!

Big killing your kid with religion and indifference is perfectly acceptable.

  26. DebbieP on March 12, 2011 5:18 am

I guess as long as the kid dies because of his parents’ religion – that makes it okay. Terry Schiavo was a brain dead person whose husband was carrying out her wishes to not be kept alive.
