Can a person be really sick from Brain Cancer and Chemo and still have fun?

someone I know has brain cancer and they’re on chemo and gets blood drawn every week. They still go to clubs and bars. Is the brain cancer still bad even though they do all this. Is it possible that they can still die?

There are different kinds of brain cancer, and different treatments. Some people feel pretty good and are able to go out, while others do not fare so well.

If your friend is currently on chemo, it’s probably not a wise idea to be drinking, but I’m sure his or her doctor has encouraged him or her to go out when possible and lead a fairly normal life. Some chemo can lower blood counts, including the white blood cell count, making the patient more susceptible to infection. If she/he is having blood drawn weekly, this count is probably being looked at, and he/she has a good idea of if it’s okay to be around other people or not.

As far as seriousness- I know people who were in school until a few days before death, and others who were very sick for a long time before death. It really depends on the type of brain tumor, the treatment, the prognosis, etc. I also know people who were really sick while on treatment and recovered, and others who survived and were not very sick while on treatment.

yea it is possible they can still die and are very poorly. They are living there life to the full and why not, they could pass tomorrow or next week. Help them to celebrate life while they are still here

I know two older women who had cancer, one of the breast and the other of the ovaries, and they still went on mini-vacations, shopping, nice restaurants, the whole nine. The woman with breast cancer actually ENJOYED going to chemotherapy, and her doctor commented that she was the only patient he knew who actually liked the experience.

Long story short, they both beat their cancers and are still alive and cancer-free today. So yeah, I guess it’s true that your mood can play a role in beating an illness.

Those with brain cancer have their blood drawn at every appt for mri’s or oncologist’s dr visit. As long as this person you mention has had brain cancer, her radiation treatments have been over and her chemo, if still on it, is 5 days a month and she would have her blood drawn before getting the next prescription. She wouldn’t still be getting it done every week. Apparently she’s doing well after her surgery and treatments, so why not go out and enjoy herself? Brain cancer is notorious for regrowth.
