Can Meditation Change Your Life Forever?

The concept of meditation is different for everyone but generally it is a sense of turning inward and concentrating on an object and increasing our awareness. Medical studies have concluded that skilled practitioners of meditation techniques can control their respiratory and pulse rate which means that they can reduce their blood pressure and control hypertension.

Traditionally meditation was used to increase awareness and bring about a heightened level of consciousness, but today meditation is just as likely to be used as a relaxation technique, or a stress management tool. By reducing your blood pressure it allows the body to heal itself by reducing headaches and migraines. Meditation is looked upon as a way of balancing the stresses of your life with the physical impacts of stress on the body.

Scientific Basis for Meditation.
Doctor Nathi Guagungijgan (1987) carried out an experiment on the breathing techniques of asthma sufferers’ after meditation. Twelve of his experimental study group were given training in meditation for four months, as well as standard asthma medication. The control group had only standard asthma medication. At the end of four months everyone of the experimental group had better control of their lungs.

The benefits of meditation are long term because the central premise of meditation is the fact that you are aware of your inner needs and subconscious thoughts therefore your mind and body is in synchronization and you are less likely to go against your core beliefs. As you learn to tune out distractions through medications you become more relaxed and this physically alters your brain patterns and this can be observed with a brain scan, it is thought that these changes in the brains patterns can impact positively on your immune system.

The great thing about meditation is the fact that you can achieve immediate effects, but the more you practice and the more the techniques become second nature the more relaxed you are and the better that you will feel. Meditation is not going to have a direct result on the cancer in the sense it is not a cancer cure. However what meditation can offer cancer sufferers’ is a real change in some of the unpleasant side effects of cancer, the nausea, the vomiting and also the insomnia.

Meditation may be done anywhere and there is no special equipment needed, however it is more effective when it is done in a quieter room free from distractions. The idea is that you free your mind from its usual thoughts and allow it to roam free some people find that focusing on a very happy memory has a positive effect others use a mantra or phrase that allows them to concentrate. Examples of this in real life are the Tibetan prayer wheel.

For meditation to be effective it is recommended that you have two sessions a day between fifteen and twenty minutes. This allows you to get as relaxed as possible, and turn into your intuition. n a controlled study of ninety cancer patients who did mindfulness meditation for 7 weeks, 31% had fewer symptoms of stress and 65% had fewer episodes of mood disturbance than those who did not meditate. Some studies have also suggested that more meditation improves the chance of a positive outcome.
