Cancer radiation or surgery?
->
HI, My sister was diagnosed with Morphea Sclerosing basil cell carcenoma in 2002. The skin cancer is located on her forhead and she has had it surgically removed once in 2003, and again in 2005. It has now returned again and she is faced with two options. The Dr. told her that she can choose radiation therapy every day for 6 weeks to see if that works, or she can have another surgery. The only difference in the surgery is that this one will be more extensive and will require plastic surgery afterwards to reconstruct her forehead. I was just wondering if anybody has ever been in this situation, or at least one similar, and what route would you advise? I’m just looking for more information to help her make her decision. Thank you.

alwas go with radiation before surgery surgery has too Manny risks
This is a personal choice that no one can make for her and is something she needs to discuss with a physician who has her records and can examine her. In other words she should get a second opinion. Of all types of BCC this type has the highest recurrence rate.
I just finished 8 weeks of radiation but I had a different cancer, but the radiation was fairly non invasive, but the radiation machine makes a difference. They used an IMRT on me, its a Linear Accelerator, and is excellent at pin pointing just the tumor area and nothing else. Its all done by computers. Radiation as it was explained to me changes the dna in the cell so when it tries to reproduce it dies then no tumor is created. I think I would give it a try. I wish I had the answer for you but good luck and Merry Christmas
