There may be some confusion here as to the tomato. It is, scientifically speaking, a fruit but many people refer to it as a vegetable. But because millions of cooks use it as a savory component of their meal preparation, the humble tomato most often gets called a vegetable. But that doesn’t matter. We all know the red [mainly] tomato and enjoy it in so many different ways. It can be eaten raw or cooked and can appear in a wide range of sauces and spreads. The humble tomato is everywhere.

Every woman is aware of the danger when diagnosed with breast cancer. Plenty of reminders about this disease are found in doctors’ waiting rooms, hospitals and health journals. The best advice of course is to have a regular check up and particularly so if you have a family history with breast cancer.

One of the great things in life is the work being done in research and medical science in the war against cancer. Obviously new drugs and better surgery techniques are always welcome but so too is a scientific approach to cancer using natural material. Fruit is a prime example of this process. Recent studies have shown that the humble avocado contains chemicals which can inhibit the growth of pre-malignant and malignant cells found in the mouth. When we find a natural product and know that it has benefits in different ways, we should latch on to that product and make it a regular and big part of our lives. I’m talking about the mighty cranberry. We may think of it only in terms of a sauce we serve at Thanksgiving. Or maybe we’ve seen cranberry juice on the fruit shelves at our supermarket. But the fresh cranberry, the small cranberry, packs a wonderful and powerful punch for our good health.

An orange is probably the favorite fruit of millions of people – young and old – around the world. We take oranges in juice and as fruit ripe from the tree. It looks and tastes delicious. Many people have a juice machine and squeeze their own orange juice for breakfast. And this sweet tasting fruit is also good for us; really good for us in maintaining excellent health and thus helping our body to resist diseases including cancer.
