The word yoga is derived from the ancient Sanskrit language, and it means “Union”, it is an influence in the Darsana School. It is one of the six darshans, the orthodox systems of Indian philosophy; although its influence pervades many Indian philosophies. The original yoga scripts date back to around the second Century BC when they were written by Patañjali. Early Hindu Vedic texts speak of ecstatic, who may have been the predecessors of yogis or followers of yoga. Patañjali’s Yoga is sometimes known as Raja or “Royal” Yoga, to denote its superiority over other schools.

All aspects of psychotherapy work on strengthening the ego and making us feel more positive and confident. A good self esteem is important because when we have it, we are more capable of bouncing back from life’s knocks. When hypnosis affects the self esteem, it is geared to addressing personal issues and it addresses the subconscious mind and why we feel that worthless and do not need or deserve to be loved and appreciated.

In 2004 Dr. Christina Liossi, studied eighty children in four groups of twenty in Wales. Two of the groups were treated by hypnosis and anesthetic before undergoing surgical cancer procedures, and two control groups had anesthetic alone. All of the eighty children were aged between six and sixteen. Forty children who were treated by hypnosis were hypnotized by psychologists and were taught to self hypnotize themselves.

When relaxation is defined biologically it has a different connotation from what many people think of as relaxation. Relaxation is not slumping in front of a television. That is not biologically relaxing or mentally relaxing as the mind is still working.
