Chemo and Prostrate Cancer ? Will it help?
->
My Granddaddy was treated for prostrate cancer with radiation beads about 2 years ago. We found out yesterday that his cancer is back with PSI level at 36. The doctor said he has to have chemo this time. He is 82. Will this chemo help? How will it effect my Granddaddy? What can I do?

My grand-father had this too and he got out of it. It wasen’t easy because chemo is hard on anyone, and the older you get the harder it is… but most people do get better now from this.
When a person goes into their 80′s and if they are without dementia and can decide for themselves, and if individuals in your family live into their 90′s, then that person can make the decision if they want to have the chemo or not. Chemo being offered to them could mean either the doctor is spacey or your family i strong and lives long. I don’t know the answer to what’s in their mind for suggesting chemo.
Usually if a person is in their 80′s nothing is suggested first of all because they won’t last long, but chemo really tires out even a young person and that will shorten their life as well and at 80 they may become bedridden never to rise again from that bed. So it’s a tough call. If he were my relative I’d suggest he take the medications instead and change his diet and enjoy his life while he’s still here and forget the chemo. Read up on the net as to the diets that people have used to stall or change cancer. Not a cure but that helped some people. Sure the chemo would help but he may not be strong enough to take it.
My pa (grand dad) had cancer too and had to go through chemo. Chemo is the ‘last resort’ and once you have started it/end it, you never do it again. its the best treatment for cancer so far.
Nothing you can do except be there for him. Be sure to visit alot, talk a lot, etc.
It’ll be ok. =)
God will take care and look after your family.
