Do cancer patients lose their hair from the chemo or the actual cancer?

Also is it just women that lose their hair or men too?

Hair loss is not caused by cancer. Many, though not all, chemotherapy regimes cause hair loss. Some cause total or almost total hair loss, some cause hair thinning, and some don’t cause any hair loss at all.

The hair loss isn’t only to the head, and men and women both lose hair,it’s just that it’s generally not so noticeable on a man – he could be bald naturally or he could just prefer a shaved head, there’s no way the casual observer can tell.

Hair grows back; sometimes it begins to grow back before chemo is over

From the chemotherapy. Unfortunately, most cancer patients will lose their hair when undergoing treatment regardless of their gender.

Most patients lose their hair from the chemo.

However, if the cancer has many secondaries then patients in terminal stages will lose hair from the actual cancer.

In addition to chemo, a radiated area usually loses the hair. Often this takes longer (or never) to grow back.

I didn’t lose any hair from either. I lost hair from surgeon shaving an area for my surgery and I lost some more from radiation. Most of my hair stayed put and covered the bald spots.

Mushroom is kind of correct. The only place my hair is still really thin is where my surgery was and where the radiation actually entered my head. The various areas it exited my head have all grown back nice and thick.
