No, the radiation is used to kill the cancer cells.

I’m not sure why you would listen to a friend over your father’s doctor. Doctors don’t hand out radiotherapy on a whim, they weigh up the advantages and disadvantages and recommend what they feel is the best option. Second opinions are good I think when the first doctor isn’t willing to do anything, but this doctor has given you a plan and that is what you paid him good money for.

I have cancer and did the chemotherapy/radiotherapy thing. I put my faith and trust in the medical team and their experience and I am sure I have done the right thing. The chemo was awful but it is doable and whilst I had bad burns from the radiotherapy, that was only towards the end and the skin bounced back very quickly. I would take everything the doctors have to offer and run with it. They are your best bet.

I wish you and your father all the best.

    Your friend is wrong.
Radiation would never cause a primary lung cancer to grow faster.
    What should you do ?
Be with your dad as much as possible. Ask questions when he sees his doctors.
His doctors know all the details of his case.
You do not tell us which type of lung cancer he has.
Small cell or non-small cell cancer of the lung ? What stage ?
We don’t even know his age.
Your dad is indeed in trouble as you say.
    This is very serious.
Wasting time waiting for a second opinion would be a huge mistake.

    Hi,

First of all do not imagine or take others view point, treatments and the diseases are completely different depending on the type of diseases and the patients.

Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that, involves the use of high energy waves to eliminate cancer.

Most cancers form a tumor whereas some like leukemia do not
Treatment either chemotherapy or radiation therapy, High sugar levels increase cancer and mortality risk that’s it. Please do not panic before you go through completely about the surgery and treatments.

Hope I have helped with more clarification

    Regards
    Bhagya.

Please don’t go listening to what others tell you!

I’m sure other people mean well but a lot of the time they really have no idea what they are talking about & also every cancer patient is unique…….no 2 are the same so only your Doctor is in the position to judge what the best treatment for your dad is.

    The best of luck :)
