Smoking and drinking do not cause cancer. But if you smoke and drink you are at a higher risk to develop cancer. No one knows what causes one person to have cancer while another does not. As you can now see anyone no matter how healthy they consider themselves . . can still get cancer.

So, it is very possible for you to have an oral cancer and to have never smoked or had a drink in your life. Children get oral cancer and they have never done any of these things.

I’m not sure why your doctor won’t say much. You should probably get another doctor or a second opinion.

I dont know what I can say to make you feel better. The fact the doctor wont say much worries me. There is no real answer to this question it sounds like your worried and need to talk to some1. Maybe find a Oral Cancer Forum and talk to people there, but don’t think you’ve got cancer just yet. Just because your friends uncle who you aren’t related too had similar symptoms doesn’t mean your any more likely to have it. Relax don’t panic and most importantly…

Hope it comes back Good for you!!My husband has throat cancer He has been given a year He’s NOT doing any chemo. or rad. or surg. He is 69 and I really believe that when God calls him home, that will be it. It is not up to a dr. It is up to God. That is what I believe .

Dear gal – you must be scared to death. Take a deep breath and know that you will handle whatever comes from this. Wait until you get the results of the biopsy before you jump off the deep end.

Yes, people get mouth (and lung) canger without ever having smoked. But I have a feeling you are going to be okay.
Do some research on the internet but don’t scare yourself.

I know chewing tobacco contributes to oral cavity cancers. But you didn’t mention it so I’m guessing you didn’t use it…
