Radiation causes mutations in the DNA of cells, which can lead to cancer. However, cancer cells, which do so much more dividing than healthy cells, are also more susceptible to the effect of radiation.

A little radiation can make a healthy cell mutate and become a cancer cell. A lot of radiation can kill it.
