I feel so alone with cancer of unknown primaryy. Is there any hope?

But you are not alone.
I saw many people like this over 20 years as a cancer specialist doctor.
Roughly 8% of people with advanced malignancies have CUP’s.
For this you need a creative oncologist – a thinking person rather than an automaton.
One who is a good guesser.
There are over 100 chemotherapy drugs available when surgery will not do.
You take the medical history and also look at the pathology – the biopsy slides yourself – and make a guess as to where this came from.
Then you design a chemotherapy plan, and do the best you can.
The oncologist has to be willing to change plans based on response or lack or response. It is a major battle that requires all of the thought and experience that an oncology specialist doctor can muster.
There is a great deal of science in medicine these days – but there is also an art to it – since we do not know everything.
My guiding thought was to treat for the best thing it could be – like an undifferentiated lymphoma. Sometimes it is a embryonal cell malignancy. But the overall thought is that common things are common. Think of atypical presentations for lung carcinomas – or breast carcinomas. The pathologist should at least be able to distinguish between carcinoma and lymphoma to give the medical oncologist a clue as to what this may be.
We could use a clue here. We don’t even know the age of the patient?

There is always hope. You need to be aggressive in getting it treated. Don’t settle for 1 or 2 doctors. Don’t settle for 30 or 40. Find someone that is willing to help instead of being a tool. There are cancer treatment centers all over the world that are willing to help. Use the internet to find them. Giving up means that you kill yourself, not the cancer.

What I came across is in it’s own way somewhat of a small miracle. The National Cancer Institute in the USA is Currently supporting clinical trials of new treatments for CUP. CUP standing for Cancer Unknown Primary.

A program similar to this one extremely helped my sister with another medical jig saw puzzle.

hi Gail..I am sorry this has happened but fear not for there is great hope.

I believe with all my hear that this is the answer you are seeking. I have not been on here all week and decided to answer a question or two and saw this one. Please pay special attention to this answer..the culmination of 30 years study after my father died of cancer and that I continued after a favorite uncle died of cancer and after my own cancer diagnosis. You are not alone, though it feels that way, for a loving God is leading you to the answers.
