i just received a call from my doctor they found abnormal cells (maybe cervical cancer) please help I’m scare?
->
i am 20 years old and i had a pap done a couple of weeks ago. my doctor called me and informed me that my test came back showing abnormal cells, she said she was not 100% sure but she found signs of cancer. she didn’t specify where or what type but she is sending me to the cancer clinic for a follow up and more tests. I’m really scared and I’m not sure what to do or think i have a few questions if anyone can help……
ive been having symptoms that include:
irregular bleeding
swelling in my abdominal area
sharp shooting pain
dizzy and nauseous
that last time i had a pap was 2 years ago when i had my iud put in
but if it is cancer what are the chances of me having a baby later?
if a hysterectomy is needed, would it be safe for me to have a child before the hysterectomy is done?
any advise from anyone here with any knowledge on cervical or other type of cancers affecting the female reproductive system????
thanks for all of your answers (one of you answered that it is sexually transmitted, but how? ive only had one partner i do have 1 child age 2 and im married and have not had any partners since (just him) is it something that another person can carry that can be passed on? could it be that his partners may have carried the virus? (my mom had a hysterctamy at age 28 when she had me the docotors said it was because she had cancerouse cells and cysts surrounding the uterus would my genetics have anything to do with that?

they could go in for further biospy. freeze the cervix. write down all your questions and take them with you to the cancer clinic. don’t wait an extended amount of time before going.. good luck
My friend had the exact same thing happen and it was HPV. The virus you hear about all the time. They ended up freezing the cells and getting rid of them. She had a couple kids after having this done, so don’t panic.
They will go in and freeze the cells that they believe to be cancerous. Its a little painful. You know that this sort of thing the majority of the time is sexually transmitted.
i have had cancerous cells and had them removed, with no risk at all for trying for a baby if i wanted..i had a small op with local anesthetic where they burnt the cells away (maybe freezer burnt) is was called loop diathermy and i was a little sore in the womb area for a day or 2 then i was back to work. As they have only found abnormal cells i would think it unlikely to worry about a hysterectomy at this point. cells are treated quickly they don’t mess about. so i hope all goes well for you, drop me a line if you wish.
I had an abnormal pap and they gave me some zinc cream to use and it cleared up the abnormal cells. That was 8 years ago, and all paps have come back normal since then. Don’t panic yet. Wait and see what they other doctor says. There is no way to know if it would be safe for you to have a child in case you needed a hysterectomy – that would be something to discuss with the doctor. Good luck. I hope everything turns out okay for you.
It’s common for young women to have these cells and to have them removed. It doesn’t mean you will have cervical cancer. I’ve known many women who have had some cells taken away and they never had a problem since.
I’m sorry you have to go through this scary situation. I kind of know how you feel though. I’m 23 and about 2 months ago I had a pap come back abnormal and showing "slight cancerous changes". I was really scared when my doc told me. I had to go in for a colposcopy, which is a procedure where they look at your cervix with a microscope-type thing to see the cells closer. I was nervous about this, but it turned out to be no big deal. My doc said the results of the colposcopy also showed "slight cancerous changes" and he wanted to do a cryo-therapy procedure to freeze off the abnormal cells. I had this done and everything turned out fine. My doc said that my next pap smear should turn out normal. I would guess that they will probably do a colposcopy on you to see if they find any cancerous cells on your cervix.
I know all of this is really scary, especially at 20 years old. Since you had a pap smear 2 years ago (I will assume it was normal since you didn’t say it was abnormal), chances are you don’t have cancer yet. It can take up to 10 years for cervical cancer to develop after abnormal cells are found. Plus, since you are only 20, the odds are in your favor. If cancer is found, sometimes the doctors are able to just remove a small portion of your cervix with cancer on it. If they remove a small portion, you would still be able to have kids later in life. I have not seen your test results, but I would guess there’s a good chance you will not have to have a hysterectomy anytime soon.
I hope your results turn out well! Good luck! I hope this helped!
I have had the same thing. It was called squrmous cells. they are cells on the surface of the cervix that apear to be white. sometimes it can be cancer other times they are nothing.
the only difference with mine is that i’m pregnant. and your question about still having a child is still realistic. it doesn’t hurt the fetus at all
You will probably have to go for a loop biopsy (very short day surgery) where they do a more in depth test. My mom just had to have this done, and she is going to have to have a full on hysterectomy.
I’m sorry I’m not more help, I don’t know about children, I think if you have a hysterectomy that your chances of kids are pretty small.
Good Luck
