Ideas for a 5 years free of cancer party?

My sister and I are throwing my mom a party for being 5 years cancer free…and we are wanting to make it very special for her…we are looking for ideas on invitations (something sweet and sentimental) and things to get her for a gift…we have decided that we are gonna ask everyone to wear pink so any other suggestions would be really really helpful and appreciated Thanks so much!!!

Find a cancer organization and get information so people can donate. Pink is a good theme to run with (I’m assuming she had breast cancer). Pink cake, plates, cups, stuff like that. Some of it, like frosting and the plates, you can buy that has a portion of the price donated to research.

I’ve seen in Michael’s Crafts and Hobby Lobby (if you are near one of those) they have plastic candy molds to make support ribbon suckers. As for a special gift you could request in the invite that each guest make a 12 x 12 scrapbook page using pics of your mom and her friends, family, etc., making it a pink theme. Then you could put all of the pages in a big scrapbook for her as each guest arrives.Congrats to your mother, that is wonderful!!

This is another milestone in her life, so maybe the theme could be milestones starting from her birth to graduation to getting married to the birth of her children, grandchildren, etc. and the invites could be a mixture, some could have pictures from each other the milestones and at the party you could have little sections that represent each milestone so people could go from section to section to see what each one holds. The last section would be her battle with cancer and her recovery.

When my mother finished her cancer treatments- her family took her on a luncheon cruise (one of those all inclusive 2.5 hour deals). We brought along a ball and chain which we shackled to her ankle. At the end of the ceremony, we cut the shackle off with bolt cutters and pretended to throw it overboard.

We called it a ‘break the ball and chain’ party to say goodbye to cancer!
She said it was wonderfully uplifting and the family had a great time watching as she had the shackle cut from her ankle!

Find an Avon rep, or go to myavon.com. Avon is the largest contributor to the Susan B. Komen Foundation and has alot of "pink ribbon" items available (including lipsticks in special cases, makeup, accessories) And they have promotional flyers for the Foundation available to hand out too… A big pink heart, with a pink ribbon tied through it, would make a nice invitation. Pink punch (maybe strawberry margarita mix with 7-Up and raspberry sorbet floating in it) … chocolate covered strawberries …. You can add pink food coloring to dough to make cream puffs and fill them with savory fillings like chicken or egg salad (even make them miniature) … Shrimp cocktails …strips of sun-roasted peppers can be used to tie "bows" on deviled eggs. Spritz cookies can be done in pink, and there’s a ribbon disk for them …

Congratulations to your mom! Although my mom is now gone, SHE had breast cancer in the 1950′s and lived another 35+ years afterwards! For that era, she was one of the longest survivors from the hospital she went to ….
