If universal healthcare is so great, why does Europe lag behind the USA in 5 year cancer survival?
->
The United Kingdom in particular comes out badly in the tables, showing cancer survival rates that are among the worst in Europe. The findings suggest that the national cancer plan for England, which began in 2000, is not working, a second editorial comments.

British cancer patients not gives best drugs
http://www.findingdulcinea.com/news/health/July-August-08/British-Cancer-Patients-Denied-Costly-Drugs.html

infant mortality rates are higher in the U.S. because we send more preemies to the NICU. in europe the rates "appear" lower because of how they classify babies that pass away shortly after birth, they classify them as never born. the result is a lower infant mortality rate.
don’t be fooled.
its the same numbers game they play with testing scores with high school students.
our juniors and seniors are scored based on all students.
in europe, if you are going to the trades or anywhere but higher ed, you are out of the classroom and into the trade school.
Our "expensive" healthcare system is the best in the world.
Many attribute it to better screening methods in the US.
I’d prefer for our infant mortality rates to look like the UK’s however.
You can’t use one statistic like that against the entire concept, especially when their health care is rated much higher than ours and cancer survival rates aren’t correlated with health care quality. What a pathetic argument.
So you think a single statistic defines the worth of an entire system?
Really?
If private health care is so great, why do tens of millions of people in the US not have insurance and over half the population can’t get adequate coverage?
How come americans have to buy cheaper drugs from Canada, since drugs are too expensive in the US.
However, Britain spends half of what the US spends already per head. Imagine universal healthcare with current levels of spending.
Didn’t Obama say he was looking into a system unlike other countries? Comparing a system we have yet to see the plans of to another system is peremptory and we all know where that gets us.
Shhhhh…the communist liberals don’t want the rest of the sheep to know the facts.
Because when you do have insurance (as 250 million people in the US do), you can start getting treatment in a matter of days or a couple weeks, rather than waiting in line for god knows how long.
They don’t let cancer get that far. They have the best detection and preventative services in the world.
We wait until there is full-on cancer and then treat it, much more expensive.
Rationing preventative screening will do that…
The USA have always done thing bigger and better than any other country .So why don’t the republicans naysayer believe in their country any more ..
Universal health care is not so great but Obama does not want his voters to figure that out until it is too late.
America has the best health care in the world in my opinion and I want it to stay that way.
And why are more and more Americans are leaving the United States to receive comparable health care in other countries at far lower prices?
According to an article by the University of Delaware publication, UDaily:
“ The cost of surgery in India, Thailand or South Africa can be one-tenth of what it is in the United States or Western Europe, and sometimes even less. A heart-valve replacement that would cost $200,000 or more in the US, for example, goes for $10,000 in India–and that includes round-trip airfare and a brief vacation package. Similarly, a metal-free dental bridge worth $5,500 in the US costs $500 in India, a knee replacement in Thailand with six days of physical therapy costs about one-fifth of what it would in the States, and Lasik eye surgery worth $3,700 in the US is available in many other countries for only $730. Cosmetic surgery savings are even greater: A full facelift that would cost $20,000 in the US runs about $1,250 in South Africa.[7]

Actually, in the last ten years, mortality in the UK due to cancer has increased. Yes, it still lags behind that of the USA, but it is felt by many that that the figures in the USA are not accurate. http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanonc/article/PIIS1470204507702589/fulltext Which allows the USA to compare favourably to other nations.
FACT – the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.
FACT – the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.
Here is a completely balanced look at the UK’s healthcare system – the good, bad and ugly. The irony is that while Americans want a system more like theirs, Britons want a system more like ours.
