I'm 36 and was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer. After Radiation & Chemo I'll be having a Radical Hysterectomy?

I would really like to hear from people who have been through it and their personal experiences.
Such as, how to mentally prepare for all of this, problems that occured, things you did to ease your discomforts, pains, etc. Things you bought that helped you tremendously. How the hospital stay was. Support sites, groups, etc… Anything you can think of to share would be most helpful. Thank you.

When I was 35, I had to have an emergency radical hysterectomy. I won’t get into why but I didn’t have time to prepare. I have a wonderful husband who helped me through this. The Dr made sure I was pain free in the hospital and out. Your Dr will give you pain meds. My hospital stay was wonderful if you can believe that, The nurses were so good. so sympathetic to my situation and never was a harsh word spoken or no one treated me like an idiot. I was not a nurse at the time. just to clarify. Support? I had a lot from family, church, and my Dr. I never attended groups because I didn’t need it. When I got depressed because I knew I could never have any more children, my Dr would stay on the phone with me as long as I needed. To be fair, I already had 4 children. I don’t know if you have any children. It isn’t that bad, really. The pain lasted only about 2 weeks at home but with the pain medication, I was alright. You can’t do anything strenuous of course, and let people wait on you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Your true friends will be more than willing to cook for you, help with housework, or children if you have them. I hope you get the support I got. I can’t say anything bad about the care I got. I wish you the best and God bless you. I know what you will be going through, but have a positive attitude because you know there is no other alternative and when you accept it, you will do fine. If you need to talk, I will be so happy to help you. I will be here for you if you need me.

    http://www.healthboards.com

Go to the board for Cervical and Ovarian Cancer.
