The nurse talking about the site of the radiation clearly has no idea what a stem cell transplant entails. He will be receving full body radiation, not just radiation to one spot.

He needs to bank sperm if that is a concern. No one can tell you for sure one way or the other. If the hematologist will allow him, he can do chemo only, as its the radiation that will get him. However, the problem with that is that they use both to ensure they have killed all of the existing marrow, because if they havent, the new stem cells wont engraft.

Bank his sperm beforehand, it's your best bet.

The best person for you to ask is your husband's doctor. If having children is important to the two of you, then perhaps you can bank some of his sperm before he undergoes treatment.

It depends on the site of radiation.Talk to your doctor first before the treatments to find out all of your options. The best bet would be to freeze sperm to use later. This is very common in child bearing age patients that undergo radiation and chemotherapy.
