is radiation therapy for cancer safe?
->
my mom will undergo 6 weeks treatment of radation therapy or her cancer cells.
as the doctor said, its supposed to be an effective way.
it will not be whole body, just in one spot. in her ovary.
anyway my problem is, will i be affected by the radiation in her body?
will her salvia, urine and feces be radioactive?
if so, can i be in close contact with her?
can i use the utensils she uses and drink from her glass etc?

Radiotherapy is not desirable but if it gets rid of that cancer and the possibility of it recurring then it’s a good thing. You will not be affected at all by it. You can use the same utensils and drink from her glass and it will do you no harm. The best thing about radiotherapy is that the treatment is quick and painless. Sometimes you can get bad burns but hopefully that won’t happen to your mum and if it does it should clear up quickly.
Good luck.
you wont be affected, she wont be radioactive. it goes through her it doesnt stay in her. only chemo stays in you for a bit. you should be worried about making her more sick not the other way around.
Don’t worry she won’t glow in the dark. Seriously though, there will be no effects on you from the radiation she receives.
I recommend that you go on about your life normally, but be aware she will be filling yucky for most of her treatments, and might need a little extra help here and there.
I also recommend you talk with your Mom, I think it would do you both good, she’ll see you are concerned, and she will educate you.
God bless you and your family dear
Yes. It is completely safe. I had 6 weeks of radiation and there were no complications to my husband.
No there is no radiation seeping out of anyone who has radiation therapy, but stay out of her saliva, urine and feces ok??
If she is under going external radiation then every thing is safe,If she is implanted with radium needles or Radio active Isotopes are given then her body excreta will be radio active needs proper disposal.Admiral V K Singh
Radiation is one of the hardest treatments to go through, towards the end your mom will be in a lot of pain and it seems to me all you care about is yourself.
