Moral dilemma: What if the discoverer of the cancer cure kills someone the next day…?

How would you judge this person/scenario: Today, a scientist finds the cure to cancer, and tomorrow the same scientist goes out and commits a murder. Is the scientist a good person? Will the scientist go to heaven or hell?

Depends on who they murdered and whether it was justified. There are some people in the world who ought to be murdered, Osama bin Laden, for example.

Curing cancer, would it be a good thing? Think of all the pharmaceutical manufacturers and their workers who will be thrown out of work, all the oncologists and surgical nurses that will be out on the street, hungry and with no way to feed their children.

ok. finding the cure for cancer does not make a good person. being a good person is a cumulation of good deeds. this person may have found the cure for personal reasons and was not going to share it with the world or just for his profit. wither he goes to hell or heaven is not up to me to judge but a person who commits murder is not generally a good person but even then there are situations when killing someone is necessary. nothing in this world is black and white. we live in the shades of gray

Ok, assuming hell exists – he will go to hell. Murder is murder, and even the pope would be considered a murderer if he killed anyone, even a criminal!

S/he saved millions of lives. The fact that s/he killed someone doesn’t change that. S/he should receive the same treatment as if s/he did not murder in the first place.

If there was a Utilitarian heaven/hell, (s)he’d go to heaven. If you go strictly by Christianity, (s)he’d go to Hell, barring any repentance.
