Good luck and good health !
Ask your veterinarian if he/she knows of an organization that might be able to help you out.
You know my cat had the same issue – a lump in her stomach and I couldn’t afford the vet bills meanwhile she got sicker everyday. I had to the right thing and put her down – that may be an option for you. These bills can cost in the thousands – and the treatment isn’t fun for the cat…do you really want to put your cat through that? You need to focus on the cat’s interests; even if that means she can be in peace.
Your vet might be able to help you find such an an
organization. I know of some for dogs, but they don’t do
cats. I asked.
A friend of mine had a cat with cancer. She paid over $25,000 to treat the cat. The poor animal kept getting sicker and sicker. Finally, the vet at the urgeing of my friends friends and family, stepped in and suggested being kind to the cat by ending its suffering.
I know you love your pet, you might not want to hear this, but
cancer is a very serious, painful illness for an animal.
Surgury and chemo inflict more pain and suffering on the animal, and many times does not help.
Since you can’t afford the treatments, please consider putting the animal to sleep.
im so sry
but i know someone who put there dog b.c of a tumor they knew that they could pay the bills but didnt want the dog to suffer in pain! i think it might be better for the cat if u just put the cat down.i knows its hard but its better then the cat being in pain all the time
Please accept my best wishes for you and your cat. I love cats, so I know what you are feeling. What you need to ask yourself is, will using chemo or surgery to prolong this cats’ life also cause it more pain? Frankly, are you doing it for the cat, or for yourself? I’m not trying to be cruel here, but if it’s for your own feelings, and the cat will still be in pain, then maybe (God, I hate to say this) you should consider having your dear friend euthanized.
If you choose to go that route, stay with your feline friend during the procedure. Let your face be the last thing he sees as he passes into the next plane, and know that you gave him the best love you could.
I think I’ll go cry now.
You should sit down and discuss with your vet the options that you have.
What kind of cancer is it, where is it located? How far along is it? What is the prognosis? These are all questions that you’ll need to ask.
My cat was diagnosed with lymphoscarcoma of his stomach in 1999. The vet said it was very early stage and the prognosis with treatment was good. We opted to do the chemo and it cost us roughly $3,000. He was in remission in 2000 and ended up living a healthy life until 2005. He was 17 years old. I don’t regret for one minute doing the chemo, but I also found out all the information from the vet and with his input was able to make an informed choice. You’ll need to weigh all the options, and money is one of them, as is if it will be worth it in the long run (depending on the type of cancer).
Good luck, prayers to you both.
Personally I wouldn’t put a cat through chemotherapy. It’s expensive and doesn’t really extend their life span by very much. The other thing I’m sure your vet explained to you is that it is unlikely that he will actually *cure* your cat. Generally they can only extend the cat’s life by a few months. I would rather put the cat on prednisone and make it as comfortable as possible for as long as possible. As hard as it is to say goodbye priorities need to be set and the cat’s quality of life needs to be considered.
Does your vet offer health insurance for you pets. In NY they have pet health insurance… Or maybe they have a payment program you can get into??? Good luck I will look on the internet though to see if there is anything or one that can help you…
