.My husband and I both had cancer and are trying to conceive. Is there anyone out there that has had chemo?

I had cancer when I was 4 so I don’t have a lot of worries. I ovalate and have regular periods but my husband was 16 when he had cancer. His doctor said he would probably be infertial but we don’t know. We have not been to the doctor yet for him. He is now 30 and I am 31. We both had chemo and radiation. Has anyone else out there concieved after these treatments?

My advice would be for him to go to a doctor now that he’s an adult and get an updated opinion. A lot can happen between age 16 and age 30. Have him go to a urologist for a sperm analysis and take it from there.

You won’t know until you have the tests done.

    Good luck.

In my opinion, I don’t think I’d be as worried about IF you’re fertile or not.

I’d be more concerned about what might have happened to the DNA of the sperm. I’ve been told that chemo/radition irreparably damages sperm and IF conception occurs, there’s a strong likelyhood of congenital defects.

I’m no doc, but I would ask your docs about that.
