radiation 4 throat cancer 1 yr ago damaged tongue/taste buds. food burns/hurts can this be healed?
->
My partner underwent chemo.radiation for throat cancer, Treatment ended a year ago and was successful. So far he is cancer free. BUT almost everything he tries to eat or drink either burns, hurts or tastes bad. The tongue appears red, raw and burned. The doctors say "hmmm, should be better by now." But it’s not. When pressed, the doctors just say " it will heal in time, or else it won’t.": Does anyone know how to heal this damaged tissue?

It will just take longer to heal. Most radiation burns are completely or almost healed in about a year. If you had more than 20 treatments, with higher doses, give it one more year. The tongue will take longer than radiation of another part of the body. Do have to say, some people never really get 100% better. It will always be less than normal.
