Success Thoughts from Dr. Larry Iverson

Cancer Success Thoughts

“Consider how much more you often suffer from your anger and grief,
than from those very things for which you are angry and grieved.”
– Marcus Antonius (83-30 BC)

A number of years ago, when discussing emotional states with a
colleague of mine named Steve Andreas, he made a statement that
stuck with me.

Steve said, “If someone you are working with pushes your buttons,
get over it before you leave work.  Choose to change your thinking
and leave it at work.  You wouldn’t want to invite that person who
angered you to come home and continue it would you?”

“Well, if you go home and keep thinking about it–that’s exactly
what you did.  You took them home with you.  And, definitely,
definitely, make absolutely certain, you don’t invite them into
your bed!”

Don’t invite them into your bed….  What a thought.  BUT, have you
ever done that?  You have a conflict and you mumble and grumble
about it on and on.  You “go to bed” with them and wake up
irritated the next day.  How silly is that?  (Pretty silly, but
we’ve each done it–right???)

The action that pushed your buttons only took a moment, but it gets
carried on for hours, days or longer.  (The truly unfortunate part,
is that the majority of things that rub us the wrong way, are not a
major deal–are they….)

When we keep stoking the anger or grief fire, we are definitely
suffering significantly by our own hand–because we didn’t control
our run away brain.  Hmmm, maybe it just might be time to control
that little bugger in your head–what do you think?

Make Today A Great Day!
