What mentallity is it of the Dutch to cuss people, saying, “I hope that your children die of cancer!”?

Yet my daughter and my Schoonson have suffered the statement many times!

Well, the mentality in most european nations is that "cursing a whole family" will get their point across stronger. This mentality runs back to the middle ages, where one loss in the family equalled major loss of labour on the farm/in the smithy/ at the mines. The more kids you had the better during those times, because it gave you far more labour thereby making you more productive. The Italians commonly do something to those people who upset called giving the "evil eye", which is a generational curse! I hope that answered your question well

Get over it. It’s just an expression – I doubt it’s particularly common anyway.
Everyone could say something that terrible. It’s not just the dutch. I would never in a million years even think of saying something that horrible but I do know people of different nationalities that could. You don’t stereotype like that, that’s just wrong.
You are right. I’ve been living in the Netherlands for more than ten years. NOT ALL DUTCH PEOPLE SAY THOSE THINGS.. by way many more than you’d think do. And screaming Kanker "cancer" _____ (fill in rude body part) is something I hear at least twice a week. I do live in the city.
All germanic peoples are slobs at heart. What’s your problem with the Dutch?
Yes. I`ve heard it too and do you know that when you confront them about having said it…….they run.
Insult the person….not the innocent.
Oh…and, though I have travelled a lot. I have only heard it from the Dutch themselves.
