Cancer Cure - December 24th, 2009 - 4 Comments
What profession do I look into if I want to find a cure for cancer?
Okay. I am now a senior in high school and a sophmore in college. I do not know what to look into as far as careers but I know I want my career objective to deal with cancer. I really would like to find a cure for cancer. I was looking at somethings and kind of saw it might be pharmacology and become a pharmacologist. Is this correct? If not, what career path should I take?

No you would probably be better off going down health science… these are the kind of people who run the tests for possible cancer cures… my grandads on one!!! Its a very hard job… Well done i really admire people who Aspire to things that bring such good to the world… I hope you are successful in your job.
most cancer researchers are medical doctors first.
Medical school and getting an M.D. would be the way to go to treat cancer. Or you could become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Oncology, who would assist a physician treat cancer at a high level. But you don’t necessarily need an M.D. to do cancer research. You could major one of the biological sciences in your undergrad years, and then get a PhD and specialize in one of the applied biological sciences, e.g. biochemistry, cellular anatomy, oncology, etc. as they are applied to the research and treatment of cancer and work as part of a cancer research team. Your research will, hopefully, result in pharmacological and other types of treatments and preventative measures. But you need to understand how the human body functions first…that means learn the biological sciences.
Molecular biology is the academic path.
Or medical school for a M.D. degree.
