Why can’t nations throughout the world concentrate on finding a cure for cancer?

With all of the worldwide research funding that we would have available through many sources throughout the world, why does it so impossible that man cannot find a cure for cancer. Is there any truth to the claim that the drug companies don’t want a cure because they would lose vasts amounts of money on the drugs they sell?

I dont think there is. Simply because I think its faulty logic to assume they would loose money. Really, they stand to make more money than imaginable with a cure. Sure, right now we have treatments…. that are already phenomonally expensive. Many patients pay those prices not knowing whether or not the treatment will work. If they can charge current prices for something that may not even work, can you imagine how much people would pay for something that was promised to work????

Beyond that, medically the reason why we dont have a cure is because cancer is NOT a single disease, its an umbrella term for over 200 different diseases. I think many people do not understand that. In the layman’s world, we just say breast cancer or lung cancer or leukemia. But in the medical world, there are several different types of breast cancer that are all different from each other, several different types of lung cancer that are all different from each other, and about a dozen or more different types of leukemia that are all different from each other. Each different type has different causes, responds to the body differently, responds to treatment differently….

We still cant control the common cold, and you expect us to be able to cure over 200 different deadly diseases? There are a LOT of things we dont have the answers to despite tons of funding. We still dont have the answer to genocide, feeding/housing the homeless, the common cold, hiv/aids, how to live without polluting our planet…. The list of things go on and on… And when talking about cancer, we have only had the technology to really investigate for less than 100 years. Its really no surprise we dont have a miracle cure.

BUT, major advancements have been made. I am alive today, but if I had been diagnosed even 10 years ago, I probably wouldnt be.

Well, there’ll never be a Eureka! moment when a single substance or procedure is discovered that will reverse all types of cancer.

The problem with finding ‘a cure for cancer’ is that cancer is not a single disease, it’s an umbrella term for over 200 different diseases. The difficulty with finding a cure is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them They all respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them, so there isn’t a magic bullet that cures all cancers and there never will be.

No, there’s no truth in the claim that cancer’s such a money spinner that no effort is being made to find cures

It’s no secret that drug companies are in it for the money. And a drug company discovering a cure for any type of cancer would make far more money than they can have dreamed of making up till now – fame and fortune beyond their wildest dreams.
